What about the audio when we don’t use CDs anymore?
The idea of using a computer as source for audio files is to get better resolution for the first. Some company’s have high resolution in 24 bit/ 96kHz format FLAC files for download. See list of download links here.
Resolution:
CD resolution is 16 bit / 44,1kHz.
DVD-Audio has up to 24 bit / 192kHz.
WMA lossless file has up to 24 bit / 96kHz.
A FLAC file has up to 32 bit / 655kHz.
Ripping a CD:
The following will take place when playing a CD in the computer:
The CD will have to be ripped to the HDD, bit for bit, first. Not just put it in the drive for playback from that. For that I will use the EAC software and convert the CD audio to FLAC files.
After that the files will be imported to the AlbumPlayer for audio playback.
Behind all the software the audio files will be transported via Virtual Audio Cable from input to output.
The audio will be output to the soundcard via ASIO and to the amplifiers.
Windows Kmixer will not be used, since it mess up the sound.
Lossless File formats:
FLAC: Free Lossless Audio Codec
WMA Lossless: Windows Media Audio 9 Lossless
